What is the loud humming or rattling from my refrigerator?
Short answer
Noise from a built-in almost always comes from the top or bottom grille rather than from inside the cabinet. A condenser fan that has picked up dust or a stray piece of packaging rattles; compressor mounts that have hardened with age hum through the cabinetry. Neither is urgent on the day, but a fan that eventually seizes takes the cooling with it — and by then the repair is no longer a fan.
